Embrace the Magic of the Holly Moon: Unveiling the Celtic Tree Moon No. 8

🌿 King Holly

From 4th August to the 1st September, we enter the realm of the Holly Moon. During this period, Mother Earth transitions from her growth phase to her harvesting and death phase, under the watchful eye of King Holly.

🌾 Lammas Ceremonial Tree

Holly is the tree of the Lammas Sun Festival on 1st August. Decorate your altar with fresh holly, or simply connect with this majestic tree and wish him well during his reign.

🌟 Symbolism

This evergreen monarch symbolizes peace, goodwill, truth, love, sacrifice, and reincarnation. Its year-round green leaves and vibrant red berries serve as ardent reminders of Mother Nature’s ceaseless renewal.

🌳 The Tinne Man

The Celts revered Holly for its energy and strength, naming him Tinne (pronounced chihnn-uh). Used as both a weapon and protector, his sharpened spikes and sturdy structure embody his planetary influences—Mars (war) and Saturn (structure and rules). Holly is also known by many folk names such as Aquifolius, Bat's Wings, Christ's Thorn, and Holy Tree.

🌕 The 8th Moon

In Chinese culture, the number 8 is considered lucky, and under this protective moon, we hope to share in that joy. Holly’s defensive nature is evident in his ability to repel lightning, unlike the Oak King who attracts it. This is why Holly is often found planted near front doors and in churchyards.

🎄 Sacred Decoration

We seek Holly’s protection when we create Yule wreaths and decorate our homes with his red berries, often paired with Ivy, his female counterpart. When we burn our Yule creations at Imbolc, saving a sprig of Holly can offer protection for the rest of the year.

💧 Holy Holly

The "Holy Water" in church fonts traces its origins to Holly. Traditionally, Holly leaves were soaked overnight in fresh spring water under a full moon, inviting the Holly’s dryad to bless the water.

🔥 Holly’s Elements

Holly’s color is red, his element is fire, and his stones are ruby and bloodstone.

🌿 Medicinal Holly

Historically, Holly leaves were used in infusions to treat fevers, rheumatism, lung conditions, and smallpox. Hot compresses made from the leaves and bark eased musculoskeletal pain. Today, tea from Holly leaves is enjoyed in regions like the Black Forest and Brazil, known as Paraguayan Tea or Yerba Mate.

🌑 Born Under the Holly Moon

Those born under the Holly Moon are natural leaders, drawn to powerful roles and eager to face challenges. While some may perceive them as arrogant, they are actually kind, generous, and their confidence is well-earned.

Seeking Spiritual Inspiration

To cleanse your space, make Holly Water and sprinkle it around, visualizing it purifying any negative energy and creating a protective red ring.

Embrace the magic and wisdom of the Holly Moon, and let its energy guide you through this transformative time. 🌿✨
